We are coming up to almost one year working on the project "Building a Stronger Future: Balancing Professional and Liberal Education Ideals in Tourism and Hospitality Education". Here's what we have achieved so far:

Activities to Date

    • An extensive review of literature that identifies the range of factors influencing tourism and hospitality education in the Australian context.

    • An analysis of the range and characteristics of higher education tourism and hospitality programs on offer in Australia.

    • The ethics application and survey instruments underpinning the data collection phase.

    • We have secured approximately 20 project champions from different higher education institutions across Australia who will help roll out the data collection phase (there are over 30 institutions offering Bachelor degrees in Australia, so we are still chasing the remaining institutions to help us).

    • With the help of Professor David Airey, we have established an evaluation framework for the project. Professor Airey will be visiting us in February 2011 to work through this framework.

We have also spent quite a lot of time getting the processes and communication right because, as you can image, coordinating seven team members across five institutions and three Australian time zones is challenging!
