As has so often been the way with our designs, this year we return to a triplet theme. Drawing inspiration from the 1945 song written during a Californian heatwave, the refrain "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow" has become a seasonal classic.
Furthermore this year could be regarded as a 20th anniversary edition of our 2001 snowflake design.
Snowflakes are widely regarded as being unique due to the quintillions of water molecules in every one and the countless permutations for how they can become ice crystals. Nonetheless, researchers have still compiled useful classification systems to help us study them.
Behind the Scenes
Although everyone's card has 3 'unique' snowflakes there were in fact 34 different designs to choose from. Each of them was painted white and given a coat of glitter before being hand tied and fixed to the opening. Originally we planned for the snowflakes to hang freely but they tended to settle perpendicular to the opening so we added the screen to keep them facing forwards.
Each of the 'Let it snow' elements had to be individually die cut and laboriously glued to the backing cloud.
