John lived in Weymouth, Norfolk, MA from 1636 to 1679. In a division of lands made in Weymouth 1636, John Staples had "Six acres assigned him in the plain and three acres in the East field" (Staples, p. 28). He was made a freeman on 10 May 1648.
"John Staples, Sr, of Weymouth, being lame and weake, made his will 18 Mrch 1681-82, and it proved 2 August 1683. In it he mentions his son, John to have a salt marsh at Braintree purchased of John Harbour, his son Abraham, his son, Joseph, his son-in-law Increase Sumner and his daughter, Sarah, wife of Increase, to have his estate in Weymouth; son John Staples and son-in-law Increase Sumner executors. Witnesses: Thomas Dun and William Chard (Suffolk Probate, 6:425)" History, p. 637)
