Ancient Mãori lore tells us that all knowledge comes from three baskets.....
Te Kete Aronui which holds all the knowledge of peace, love and all that benefits and nurtures humankind. It held the knowledge of cooking, weaving and practical things. Amongst some iwi (tribes) it is known as 'Te Kete Uruuru Matua'
Te Kete Tuauri which holds all the knowledge of customs, rituals, prayer, laws, family traditions and the gods. Amongst some iwi (tribes) it is known as 'Te Kete Uruuru Tipua' or 'Te Kete Uruuru Rangi'.
Te Kete Tuatea, also known as 'Te Kete Uruuru Tawhito' or 'Te Kete Uruuru Tau', which holds all the knowledge of war, defence & weapons, of Kaitiaki (guardians), hidden things and magical things.
'The Mãori Oracle' is read by asking a question of your Tipuna (ancestors) and drawing a card from these three sacred baskets of knowledge. You can draw your cards in any order, using whatever method you are comfortable with but you must be conscious of which basket you are drawing from when you choose your card. Each card will serve to give you a different perspective, depending on which basket it represents.
Each card features a tohu (sign) that is special to the New Zealand Mãori and every card tells it's own story....
