1. Why should I take this class?
You should take this course if you are interested in the fields of Architecture, Engineering or any of the other Design related careers found on the Careers in Design page. Many students enjoy the course because it offers them the opportunity to be creative, and learn new technology.
2. Do I need to be good at drawing to be successful in this course?
While being artistic is beneficial, it is not a requirement for the course. We do make use of some free hand sketching and manual drafting, but for the most part we utilize computer aided design (CAD). Programs such as AutoCAD, SketchUP and Lumion are used to create our designs.
3. Is it difficult?
The course is not difficult if you are dedicated to learning. Skills are developed slowly through teacher led tutorials/lectures/lessons, hands on activities, and the completion of small projects.
4. If I am not interested in pursuing a design related career why bother taking the course?
Even if you are not interested in pursuing a design related career, you can still develop practical knowledge and real world skills that will be valuable to you in your adult life.
5. Should I sign up if I am pursing a career in Engineering/Architectural fields?
Students often approach me and ask this question. The answer is YES. It would be to their advantage to at least have the experience and build the skills that this course provides before entering their post-secondary program. Of course this will be only the tip of the iceberg.
