It is said that 'home is where the heart is'. If the Church is going to bring Humanity home to God then we need to know where the heart of God is. We will learn that by accepting Jesus' invitation to follow him, since "No one has ever seen God; it is the only Son, who is close to the Father's heart, who has made him known." (Jn 1:18)
Here are some pointers from the Gospels about following Jesus:
"Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them is like a sensible man who built his house on rock." Mt 7:24 What are some Gospel words that I build my life on?
"If anyone want to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross and follow me." Mk 8:34
What should I put aside to follow Jesus?
"And there are those who have been sown in rich soil; they hear the word and accept it and yield a harvest, thirty and sixty and a hundredfold." Mk 4:20 (See verses 15-19)
Do I get carried away with worldly thinking or do I get withered by trials or choked off with other concerns or, in the other hand, do I produce the harvest?
"You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength." Mk 12:31
Who or what do I love? Do I love God more?
"Make your home in me, as I make mine in you." Jn 15:4
Do I set time aside to be with God on his terms? What happens?
"Go, therefore, make disciples of all nations." Mt 28:19
Who do/can I mentor in Christ?
"The Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that, in his name, repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be preached to all nations ... You are witnesses to this." Lk 24:47-48
Can I talk about the connection between my sin and Christ's suffering?
"In truth, I tell you, whoever believes in me will perform the same works as I do myself, and will perform even greater works because I am going to the Father," Jn 14:12
When have I worked wonders? If not, why not? If so, praise God!
"The word that I have spoken will be his judge on the last day." Jn 12:48
Do I judge my activity according to the Gospel word?
