Being a part of the technical festival (“INNOVISION”) of the college a line follower was made. The functional basis of the line follower was based on the response of the photodiodes to variation in the light incident on their surface. Whenever the vehicle moved on the line then the light being emitted by the LEDs was absorbed by the material which formed the line. Because of this the photodiodes responded with high resistance (open circuit). On wavering from the line more light was absorbed by the photodiodes which resulted in lower resistance output (closed circuit). This was detected by the microcontroller (ATMEGA 32). The microcontroller controlled the direction (back / forward) of the vehicle using the H-Bridge and speed was controlled by Pulse Width Modulation.
