Traditionally, communication systems are synthesized in time domain using preset frequency allocation to the user(s). The project involves using transform domain to synthesize waveform features. Transform Domain Communication System (TDCS) are spectrum scavenging systems which modulate data by a waveform whose phase is pseudo-random. This creates a noise like waveform suitable for secure, low probability of intercept communications, as well as spectrum-sharing applications. Since it transmits in “spectrum white spaces”, TDCS can also be used for dynamic spectrum access in a cognitive radio, as a spectrum overlay secondary user, and since it transmits at low power, it can be used on the control channel in cognitive radio. The project includes the basic cognitive radio simulation in MATLAB and then encompasses the TDCS transmitter and receiver.
