You must start by identifying and recording the lock’s manufacturer, see Pg 501. Next, find and record the key identification number, usually embossed someplace on the lock housing itself. Then there are 5 choices listed below.
If a lock does not have an embossed key number, that could mean that all of those locks were manufactured using the same key. Your only solution is to have a Locksmith cut the key by the impression method.
1 - If it’s an Eagle A50M## or an Excelsior KY## number, you may be able to order a new key from Gerstner. However, read Pg 570 - Gerstner’s Keys, before ordering.

2 - You can go to this site to see if they have a used one in stock, or do a computer search.
3 - Post your request and key number on a forum to see if somebody would duplicate or post a picture of their same numbered key for you. Some people can cut keys based on a good picture.
4 – Find a qualified locksmith. Locksmiths may not have the proper key blank and can no longer cut keys based on these key numbers only. The numbers are too old and the manufacturers’ cutting codes have most likely been destroyed. The locksmith must be able to use the impression method to cut the key.
You can copy one of the below Make Keys pages for the correct lock manufacturer and either a flat or a grooved key, whichever your lock uses. Purchase the alternative key blank, Pg 510, and take the blank(s) and the copy of the key page to the locksmith, along with your chest.
5 - If your lock is loose and can be mailed, then you could contact companies such as - Commercial, Residential, Mobile | Lacey's Lock Service (laceyslockservice.com) in Florida or http://cavecreeklock.com/ in Arizona. They can cut keys using the impression method.
