Peerless Machinist Tool Chests

Mid 1920’s – Late 1930’s

My historical research has not found ANY published data on them. I do have seller pictures and dimensions of various configurations. They apparently sold 18” and 20” wide chests only in Oak or Leatherette covering, and 3/2, 5/2 and 7/3 drawer configurations. They had a diamond shaped mirror with a wood frame. I’m not comfortable with listing the height and depth dimensions presented by sellers.

They do have one unique feature. Their removable front panel was full height and its 2 latches and clasp lock connected to the bottom of the lid when closed (not the bottom of the till’s face board). There’s a strip of wood attached across the top, outside, of the till’s face board. The front panel’s top, back, surface is milled out to fit around the strip of wood when closed. Therefore, when closed and locked , with the side latches open, the panel won’t lift up and out of the bottom retainer groove allowing access to the chest.

I'm not sure whom the manufacturer may have been. But, perhaps American Chest Co., Waukesha, WI.
