On March 2,2013 the GRGC had its meeting at Idell's house.
The invited speaker Mary Gerber talked about "The Food Web" in your garden.
The setting was quite nice at Idell's house. The birds were singing, the frog were croaking, the almond petals drifting down, while the ~ 41 people attending learned so many new ideas about the web of interconnectedness between their gardens soil and the plants they grow.
Mary Gerber provided a handout which is available here.
If you attended the meeting and learned something interesting and unexpected, please use Contact Us to submit your ideas.
Several people commented on the discussion, by Mary Gerber, that the drippings from worm bins is worm leachate, anaerobic and is actually bad for plants/soil. The drippings means the worm bin is too wet (correct by adding cardboard, shredded newspaper or dry leaves). The worm "poo" (worm castings) is golden. Anni says that real "worm compost tea" is made with the final worm poo.

A good YouTube video by Jeff Lowenfels on Soil Food Web Lecture is here.
There are also several YouTube videos with Elaine Ingham talking on this subject as well.
