The range of a function is the list of "output" values. In Example 1, the range would be the numbers from the "Tokens" category: {10, 7, 5}. If we think of the function as ordered pairs {(1, 10), (2, 7), (3, 5)}, the range would be all of the second numbers, or the y-values.
There are several synonyms for "range". "Range", "outputs", "f(x)", "y", and "dependent variable" all mean the same thing. Putting these with the domain synonyms, we have several ways to talk about the domain and range:
Domain à Range
Inputs à Outputs
x à y
x à f(x)
Independent àDependent
