Diagrams & Charts

A diagram is a picture or drawing that has words, called labels, which tell us the parts of the thing that is shown. Here is a diagram of a bird.

A chart is a way of showing information, called data, that is important to what we are reading. Charts tell how much or how many of something and can be in different forms, such as bar graphs (rectangles), line graphs (dots and lines), or pie graphs (circle). Here is a chart of students' favorite after school activities.
