The journey begins with the first step....
The road less traveled...
See yourself where you are going to be....
There are numerous steps to finding the motivation to move forward once you've figured out where it is you want to go. Figuring out where it is you want to be is the most important first step in the process. Many students coming into Penn State are convinced they want to be stage managers of the highest order! They are going to be the Broadway Stage Manager of the future. And they may be right. But if time and experience are on my side, just as with actors, most of you it's not going to work out so cleanly that way.
I used to ask stage managers going into their seventh semester at Penn State to start identifying where they intend on their career taking wing in 9 months. Now I've begun to realize that by that time this strategy is too late. By your senior year you're already struggling to get the last classes you need completed for graduation, you've got a senior's attitude that you're working on borrowed time, and the stress of getting prepared for graduation is starting to wear on you like Frodo's ring. The closer get to graduation the heavier it weighs. So it occurred to me that we need to start the process sooner.
Setting goals is definitely something you should do. If you don't your setting yourself up for whatever comes along. While that's great for the Gypsy life you might want to plan a little harder to create the future you want.
It all begins with what you want, From there the journey begins. And, it's not an easy question to ask or to answer. It's difficult at 20 or 21 to determine where you want your future to go. But consider this:
You have to start somewhere and I believe that first step begins with yourself. Taking a very clear assessment of what you're willing to do and what your'e not willing to do to achieve your goals. That then determines where you are going to go in the future. Here is an interesting take from a blogger on the question you have to ask yourself:
