A quick note on fire extinguishers. You should note where all fire extinguishers are located in your building and/or theatres. As a general rule you should have some experience in handling them if you plan on using them. PASS is an acronym that stands for Pull, Aim, Squeeze, and Sweep. It means "pull" the pin, "aim" the nozzle, "squeeze" the handle, and "sweep" from side to side as you put out the fire from the base of the fire and not at the top of the flames. You want to take on of the three ingredients necessary for a fire; oxygen, something to burn, and something to act as the combustible reactor. The following is a chart of the most common types of fire extinguishers. Your fire extinguishers are identified by colors and by stamps. Become familiar with the stamped codes below. C is the most common in use in theatres. Never use water (A) on electrical or gas fires.
In the event of a fire you should call 911 immediately. You should care for the safety of your company and you should discuss evacuation procedures with them in the event of an emergency. If you are not comfortable operating a fire extinguisher you are not required to do so. I'll try to cover all of that later is a section about safety. Here is the chart:
