El Moscóforo, es una escultura tipo kurós que data del año 570 a. C. y que fue esculpida por algún artista de los talleres de Ática, región de la Antigua Grecia, estando considerada como una de las obras maestras del Período arcaico de Grecia.
La escultura fue hallada en entre las ruinas de la Acrópolis de Atenas, (Grecia).
La pieza representa a un kurós (una estatua de un varón joven, fechada a partir del Periodo Arcaico del arte griego (sobre 650 al 500 a. C.). Es un tipo de escultura que imperó durante los siglos VIII - VI a. C. El equivalente femenino son las korai (singular koré). Muestra la característica sonrisa arcaica.
La escultura se considera un exvoto, y fue una ofrenda dedicada por Rhombos, hijo de Pales, a Atenea o Atena (en ático ????? Athênã o en jónico ????? Ath?nê; en dórico ?s??a Asána), diosa de la sabiduría, la estrategia y la guerra justa. Fue considerada una mentora de héroes y adorada desde tiempos remotos como patrona de Atenas, donde se construyó el Partenón para rendirle culto.
La pieza se expone de forma permanente en el Museo de la Acrópolis de Atenas, (Grecia), donde tiene asignado el número de inventario 624.

The return of the Parthenon Marbles

The new museum of the Acropolis has opened and is ready for the return of the stolen marbles.
The stolen artefacts were removed from the Parthenon in 1801 by Thomas Bruce, 7th Earl of Elgin, have suffered from 19th century pollution and they have been irrevocably damaged by cleaning methods employed by British Museum staff.
Safekeeping of the Marbles would be ensured at the New Acropolis Museum, situated to the south of the Acropolis hill. It was built to hold the Parthenon sculptures arranged in the same way as they would have been on the Parthenon.
The museum's facilities have been equipped with state-of-the-art technology for the protection and preservation of exhibits.

The new Acropolis Museum was designed with two objectives: the first to offer the best conditions for the exhibition of its exhibits and secondly to be a Museum that welcomes and befriends its visitors.
A walk through its galleries is a walk through history -- between the masterpieces of the Archaic and Classical periods, but also in the ancient neighborhoods of Athens.
The Museum offers many opportunities for rest and recreation, as well as a visitor friendly environment for some of the most emblematic works of antiquity.
Today, the new Acropolis Museum has a total area of 25,000 square meters, with exhibition space of over 14,000 square meters, ten times more than that of the old museum on the Hill of the Acropolis. The new Museum offers all the amenities expected in an international museum of the 21st century.
