In November 2010, the Museum of Cycladic Art announced that it will support a lecture series about the ancient art of the Cyclades and other regions of ancient Greek world, by establishing an endowment fund to the Greek and Roman Department of the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art.
The lectures series are in the fondest memory of Dolly Goulandris, who founded the Museum in 1986. Dr. Thomas P. Campbell, Director of the Metropolitan Museum, welcomed the gift and stressed, "the scholarly activities of the Department of Greek and Roman Art have been greatly enhanced, transforming it into a major centre for the study of early Cycladic sculpture". Following Dr Campbell's welcome note, the event continued with the speeches of Dr Carlos Picon, curator-in-charge of Greek and Roman Art at the Metropolitan Museum, then Dr. Nicholas Chr. Stampolidis, Director of the Museum of Cycladic Art, and Sandra Marinopoulos, President of the Museum of Cycladic Art.

The Museum of Cycladic Art is dedicated to the study and promotion of ancient cultures of the Aegean and Cyprus. The Main Building is at Kolonaki district and an 8-minute walk from Syndagma Metro station.The building has 4 floors with galleries, occupying a total of approximately 2,300 sq. m.Find out about the mysterious Cycladic Culture that flourished during the Early Bronze Age on the islands of the Aegean Sea, on the museum's 1st floor. It hosts the world's largest collection of Cycladic art - one of Athens' must-sees.The 2nd floor houses the Ancient Greek Art Collection that covers the period between 2000 BC and 4th c. AD. The display offers a fresh look into the world of the ancient Greeks, in a new museographic environment with several interactive applications.On the 4th floor, a display called "Scenes from daily life in antiquity" offers a thematic exploration of various aspects of public and private life in ancient times. Ancient artifacts are ingeniously combined with high quality graphics and videos offering contemporary interpretation.The main building also houses the Café of the museum, a great place to cool down and have lunch prepared by award winning chefs, which is located at the atrium of the ground floor. Next to the Café is the Museum Shop, where visitors can find exact reproductions of the museum pieces, home-ware designs inspired by Cycladic, Ancient Greek, and Cypriot motifs, books and various kinds of memorabilia.From the atrium, a corridor leads to the Stathatos Mansion, an eclectic-style neoclassical building designed by Ernst Ziller, where contemporary exhibitions are held, one of the most beautiful buildings in the area.

Μέσα στα εργαστήρια των Αρχαίων...
Αν και συχνά θαυμάζουμε τα αντικείμενα που κοσμούν τις προθήκες των αρχαιολογικών μουσείων, σπανίως αναρωτιόμαστε πώς κατασκευάστηκαν. Τα βίντεο που ετοίμασε το Μουσείο Κυκλαδικής Τέχνης επιχειρούν να καλύψουν αυτό το κενό. Σε αυτά μπορείτε να δείτε σύγχρονους τεχνίτες, οι οποίοι χρησιμοποιούν παραδοσιακά εργαλεία για να αναπαραστήσουν αρχαίες τεχνικές και να δημιουργήσουν αντικείμενα παρόμοια με αυτά που εκτίθενται στις προθήκες του μουσείου.
Τα βίντεο προέρχονται από την έκθεση «Μέσα στα εργαστήρια των αρχαίων… μαζί δημιουργούμε» και άλλες παρουσιάσεις του ΜΚΤ. Η παραγωγή τους έγινε υπό την επίβλεψη του αρχαιολόγου-επιμελητή Δρ Νίκου Παπαδημητρίου.

Inside Ancient workshops….
How were Cycladic figurines carved? What type of tools did ancient jewellers use to make gold ornaments? How did ancient painters decorate the surface of vases?
Although we often admire the brilliant objects exhibited in archaeological museums, only rarely do we learn how they were made. This series of videos, produced by the Museum of Cycladic Art, aim to fill this gap. In the videos you can see modern artisans using traditional tools in order to reconstruct ancient techniques, and create objects similar to those exhibited in the museum.
The videos were produced during the exhibition “Inside ancient workshops…together we recreate” and on other occasions. They production was supervised by the museum curator, Dr Nikolas Papadimitriou
