I am the district administrator of the MOODLE and Canvas learning management systems. I sit on the Board of Directors for CUE-NV (Computer Using Educators of Nevada) and e4e NV (eLearning for Educators, Nevada). I advocate for education reform through the ISTE Advocacy network/ETAN. I was also a committee member for the Nevada Ready 21 project, and I am a K-12 Ambassador for the New Media Consortium.
This year, I decided that in lieu of a Ed.D. I am pursuing various certifications. I have achieved: Microsoft Innovative Educator, Microsoft Certified Trainer, Google Certified Educator Level 1 and 2. Currently working on: Leading Edge Certification: Professional Learning Leader, Leading Edge Certification: Online and Blended Teacher, and Certified Ed Tech Leader.
Professional Background
I have been an educator for over twenty years. Currently, I am a Program Specialist in the 21st Century Learning Division in Washoe County School District, NV. Prior to this position, I taught elementary and middle school for over ten years, and supported novice teachers as a full-time mentor for three years. Since 2009, I have been helping teachers learn how to make changes in their teaching practice to incorporate 21st Century skills and effective use of technology. I facilitate several online and blended professional learning courses including: 21st Century Learning Leaders Network, 21st Century Educator Badge Program: Explorer (Camp 21), Practitioner, and Leader Badge.
Personal Background
I have lived in Reno since 1972. I went to Greenbrae ES, Dilworth MS, McQueen HS, and UNR. I LOVE to read...all genres. My husband, Shannon is a techy person as well. He works for himself as a computer tech and broadcast engineer (FM radio systems and transmitter sites). We both love our gadgets. We have been married since 1995 and we have a 16 year old daughter, named Emma.
We spend a lot of time together and with other friends and family. We love to go camping at Pyramid Lake and making our yearly pilgrimage to the Pacific Ocean. I love doing Bikram Yoga, and I am a novice skier and surfer. We have a Lhasa Apso named Snickers and two Dachshunds named Tilly and Izzi. I love watching Game of Thrones, Outlander, AGT, SYTYCD, and The Voice.
