School History

Talman Elementary School was opened in September 2002 to help alleviate the serious overcrowding at the nearby public schools. It is a small school of choice with a personalized setting offering the complete Chicago Public Schools' curriculum and the State of Illinois Standards with a strong focus on reading and mathematics.

The State Pre-School Program opened in September 2003 with two half-day sessions. It is a Dual Language Program designed to help students acquire proficiency in both English and Spanish. The Dual Language Program was extended to include all students entering Pre-K, Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade in September 2006.
