Warren "Rhubarb" Jones

Radio Personality

Rhubarb is a name familiar to almost everyone in the South as being the voice of a radio icon.  So why include him among Tallapoosa, Georgia’s local musicians?

The reason for his far reaching accomplishments in life, as he has said, can be attributed to his growing up years in Tallapoosa.

As a young boy, his mother purchased his first set of drums for Christmas.  This was perhaps the beginning of his love and appreciation for music.  Being blessed with a mother and grandmother who encouraged him to succeed in everything, he joined the school band where he marched in parades and played drums.

For Warren “Rhubarb” Jones those early years of dedication, perseverance and persistence in school, music and work paid off.  As he graduated from high school and moved forward into college, he was asked to join a jazz band.  During those days, the band played in a number of venues.

Rhubarb has certainly been a performer of music during his lifetime.

However, Tallapoosa is most proud to say that he was the longest running morning radio personality in the Atlanta radio market.  His 23 years in morning radio at Y-106.7 and later Eagle 106.7 is an Atlanta radio milestone.

Many people have praised Rhubarb for his genuine warm “country gentleman” style as a radio personality.  A style that is truly his own and will never be repeated.  Music lovers enjoyed hearing his voice for over 36 years.

During his radio days, he brought smiles to the faces of sleepy listeners.  As commuters slowly made their way into the city of Atlanta and surrounding areas, Rhubarb’s excellent wit and sense of humor prepared his followers for the day.  Frequently, from sheer memory, he sent out birthday wishes to many who were most appreciative of those caring impromptu greetings and messages.

Today, Mr. Jones is putting smiles on the faces of college students who travel to Kennesaw State University to attend the classes he now teaches.

His students are now reaping the benefits of his long career in radio.  In addition, he serves as Director of Special Projects in the Office of Development and Distinguished Lecturer in the Department of Communication.

Since those early years in Tallapoosa, Rhubarb’s list of achievements has grown dramatically. Tallapoosa, Georgia is extremely proud that Warren “Rhubarb” Jones calls this town his home.
