The main stars of the previous season remain the same, with the additions of Helmut Berger (Peter de Vilbis) and Deborah Adair (Tracy Kendall) for 9 and 20 episodes, respectively. In episode 8 Michael Nader joins the regular cast of the series as Dex Dexter. The supporting cast includes Virginia Hawkins and Betty Harford, and debuting William Beckley as the new majordomo Gerard.

Mark is charged with attempted murder and arson; Alexis tells Blake and the police his motive was revenge. The other suspects: McVane, Hess and Adam, are questioned and released. After Alexis destroys Fallon's relationship with Mark, Krystle suggests she is seeking revenge because Mark rejected her; then Blake tells Alexis:
"I really must thank you. For once in your life, you've done me a favor - even though it was totally unintentional. You know, if you keep up this kind of behavior, people are going to start liking you." "I don't know what you're talking about" - she answers, "but people either loathe me or adore me. There's no middle ground with Alexis Colby - never has been, never will be." Kirby breaks down and tells Krystle her baby is not Jeff's; an unknown man in surgical garb tries to smother Alexis. Blake and Jeff receive a frantic call from Joseph, who is muttering incoherently. At the bungalow where Kirby was born, Blake and Jeff find the disturbed butler with a gun. Before they can stop him. Joseph pulls the trigger and kills himself.

Alexis recibe una nota escrita por el difunto Joseph, confesando que fue él quién provocó el incendio porque ella había arruinado muchas vidas con sus manipulaciones y esperaba que su muerte satisfaría "la necesidad de venganza de la bruja del pelo negro". Alexis se burla de ello y afirma que nunca pretendía contarle a Kirby que su madre era una "ninfómana". Blake miente para proteger a la chica: le dice que su padre temía que Alexis tomara el control de la Denver-Carrington e intentara matarla por lealtad a su jefe. Cuando el intento de asesinato fracasó, el mayordomo se quitó la vida. Como siempre, Alexis critica a Blake por cómo ha tratado a Kirby:
"¡Qué noble de tu parte mentir, Blake...¿Tengo que aplaudir ahora, gritar bravo o parecer muy impresionada? Pues no lo estoy. Te van muchas cosas pero no ser un beato." Claudia es dada de alta del sanatorio y ella y Steven hacen el amor. Cuando Steven se entera del plan de Blake para solicitar la custodia de Danny, se enfurece, ambos hombres pierden la calma y acaban peleando en el suelo...
Alexis receives a note written by the late Joseph, stating that he indeed set the fire to kill her because of the lives she's ruined with her manipulations and hoping his death will satisfy “the black-haired witch’s need for vengeance”. Alexis laughs it off, claiming she never intended to tell Kirby her mother was an "attic nympho." Blake lies to protect the girl, telling Kirby her father was worried Alexis would take control of Denver-Carrington and tried to kill her out of loyalty to his employer. When the murder attempt failed, the butler tragically killed himself. As usual, Alexis bashes Blake for the way he has treated Kirby:
"How noble of you, Blake, to lie. Do I applaud now; shout Bravo! or just remain terribly impressed. Well, I'm not impressed. Many things suit you Blake but being sanctimonious isn't one of them." Claudia is released from the sanitarium and she and Steven make love. When Steven learns of Blake's plan to sue for custody of little Danny, he becomes enraged. Both men lose their tempers and wrestle each other to the ground.

Alexis encuentra su apartamento patas arriba cuando vuelve de los tribunales. La policía especula que podría haber haber una conexión entre eso y los recientes atentados contra su vida. Fallon testifica a favor de Steven y, cuando se marcha a Montana, Alexis le dice a Adam que, si su viaje tiene que ver con el envenamiento, se quedará solo. En el estrado, Sammy Jo cuenta falsas historias de la promiscuidad de Steven, pero él está decidido a conservar la custodia de su hijo:

Fallon testifies on Steven's behalf. When she leaves for Montana, Alexis tells Adam that if her trip has anything to do with the poisoning incident, he's on his own. On the witness stand, Sammy Jo fabricates tales of Steven's sexual promiscuity, but he is determined to keep his son´s custody:

Following through on the plan to retain custody of Danny, Steven and Claudia fly to Reno and are married. When the judge receives the assurance they will jointly rear the child, the suit is dismissed. Sammy Jo is furious to hear that: "I guess I am supposed to congratulate you on the wedding. I do; for the way you pulled the wool over that judge's eyes, Steven. And you, Claudia, I feel sorry for you, but I wish you good luck because, believe me, you're going to need it." Attempting to win Krystle back, Blake offers her a public relations job at Denver-Carrington. Adam asks Alexis to sign three routine documents, but the second and third pages are positioned so only the signature line is exposed. When alone, Adam crumples the first page and carefully places the other two in his pocket. Fallon and Jeff investigate the poisoning incident in Montana. They are stunned to learn the name of the prosecuting attorney was Michael Torrance--the name Adam used before arriving in Denver.

When alone, Adam crumples the first page and carefully places the other two in his pocket. Fallon and Jeff investigate the poisoning incident in Montana. They are stunned to learn the name of the prosecuting attorney was Michael Torrance--the name Adam used before arriving in Denver.

Bill Rockwell, the retiring head of Denver-Carrington's public relations department, breaks the news to his disappointed assistant, Tracy that Krystle has been given the position she had planned on assuming. Mark proposes marriage to Krystle. When she refuses, he attacks her. Alexis is shocked to find her signature on the purchase order for the deadly chemical compound. She quickly realizes Adam has framed her. Blake threatens to call the press if she doesn't return Jeff's stock and cancel the corporate merger:
"I warn you, if you're even five minutes late for that board meeting, I will not only inform the board members of the whole sickening story, I'll go public with it. I'll leak details to the press about an unnamed widow who was prepared to murder to get what she wanted. There will be enough clues in the story to destroy your reputation for good here in Denver and in the oil business as well...Not even five minutes late, remember."

Alexis informs the board members that the sudden merger cancellation was based on her assessment of Denver-Carrington's lack of creative growth. Farnsworth Dex Dexter, the sharp-minded son of an important board member, surprises Alexis with a passionate kiss and suggests they form a business partnership: "Now that we know we have something in common", - Dex says - "we can do business together." "I don't like the word common, Mr. Dexter."

Maybe you should revive an old talent. It would probably make you a hell of a lot more fun to live with." Dex continues his campaign to win Alexis. Jeff learns Kirby was pregnant when they wed and is shocked to learn that Adam raped her. Fallon accompanies Blake and Krystle to L.A. to consult an architect about expanding La Mirage. While at the track, Fallon is swept off her feet by a millionaire playboy, Peter de Vilbis.

Jeff intercepts Kirby as she is about to leave for Paris. Blake proposes marriage to Krystle, who happily accepts.

"I'm not sharing you with anyone" - assures Dex. "I think you still have a thing for Blake Carrington." "Blake Carrington? I loathe him. From the bottom of my heart. I despise that man. And, as far as sharing you goes, exclusivity is something only I decide." As the wedding guests arrive, Adam demands Kirby tell their child the true identity of his father. Learning she intends to divorce Jeff, Adam asks Kirby to marry him. Krystle and Blake exchange vows and are pronounced husband and wife.

While pouring herself a glass of water, Kirby's hand begins to tremble uncontrollably. Diagnosed as suffering from hypereflexia, a condition that may lead to convulsions or heart failure, Kirby remains hospitalized while Adam keeps an all-night vigil in her room. Suddenly, her body becomes rigid and goes into convulsive seizure.

Peter has made arrangements for the ransom to be delivered to Allegre's captors. Blake grows suspicious of his refusal to call in the police and is unhappy about Fallon's decision to marry him: "Someone has been bashing Peter, and I want to know who. It was Jeff, right?" As Blake struggles to understand, Kirby's doctor appears to report that Kirby is alive, but they were unable to save her baby girl.

As Fallon plans to wed Peter, Claudia advises her of his womanizing. Fallon dismisses Claudia's concern, however, as she has with all the others who question the wisdom of her marrying Peter. Tracy sleeps with a newspaper reporter in exchange for a damaging story to scandalize Krystle. Blake gives an advice to Dex about Alexis:
"If you think what you're getting with Alexis is love, I wish you luck, my friend, because, by God, you're going to need it." After Allegre is safely returned, Blake questions Jack Crager, the horse's trainer. After their meeting, Jack quickly phones Peter, who instructs the horse trainer to disappear until further notice. Distraught after learning that Peter has suddenly left the country, Fallon runs into the path of an oncoming truck. Jeff and Blake look on in helpless disbelief.

Con la familia esperando en el hospital que Fallon vuelva en si, Blake se dirige a toda prisa al aeropuerto para detener a Peter. Cuando pasa por los controles de seguridad, DeVilbis dispara una alarma y los guardias encuentran un alijo de droga en su maleta. Blake impide que escape, y Peter es encarcelado. Más tarde Blake recibe una propuesta para ocupar un importante cargo político. McVane informa a Alexis del nombramiento pero esta se burla de él:

With the family at the hospital waiting for Fallon to regain consciousness, Blake races to the airport to intercept Peter. Passing through security, DeVilbis sets off an alarm and the guards find a cache of drugs in his briefcase. Blake blocks his escape, and Peter is taken to jail. Blake is offered an important political post. McVane informs Alexis of the appointment but she makes fun of him:
"I'm sorry to disappoint you, Neal, but if you came here to see me squirm, you are out of the cab fare it took to get here, or did you have to walk." He is sure she will try to topple him and wants to be there when she does to blackmail her. Kirby accepts Adam's marriage proposal: "You still want to marry me even though you know I don't love you?" - she asks him. "You will. I'll promise. Whatever it takes. How ever long it takes, you're going to love me as much as I love you. Fallon regains consciousness and finds she is paralyzed.

Fallon's doctors believe her paralysis to be psychosomatic. To prevent her from marrying Adam, Alexis offers Kirby a job in Paris. When the ploy fails, Alexis tells the girl her mother has long been confined to an institution for the criminally insane. Kirby had believed her mother to be dead. Fallon, under the care of physical therapists and a doting family, remains unable to walk, until her child's life is in jeopardy. At a family dinner to celebrate Fallon's recovery, Claudia receives a message containing a family snapshot taken by Matthew. She determines to unravel the mystery behind her tormentors.

When Krystle's doctor reveals she is pregnant, both she and Blake are overjoyed. Krystle insists Blake go ahead with a scheduled business trip to Hong Kong and sends Tracy to cover for her. Upon arrival, Blake is chagrined to learn the China Seas deal is to be negotiated by Rashid Ahmed, a notoriously underhanded character. Fallon begins to suffer from painful, recurring headaches. Kirby is torn between finding her mother and leaving matters as they are. Claudia and Steven visit the site of Matthew's accident in the Peruvian jungle. Seeing the wreckage, Claudia is finally satisfied her husband and daughter are dead. Once home, however, she receives a phone call from Matthew.

Blake y Ahmed cierran el negocio petrolífero de los Mares de China: "A veces la gente cae de lo más alto pero no tengo miedo de caer, porque este negocio es seguro. Es algo que sólo se encuentra una vez en la vida y nada ni nadie lo arruinará..." Alexis se entera del negocio y planea un contraataque. Blake se enfrenta con el periodista Grayson por su comportamiento traicionero con Tracy, y luego dimite en su cargo político. Cuando Tracy intenta seducir a Blake, este la despide. Steven sospecha de Dex cuando lo ve en el despacho de Alexis con un ramo de violetas en la mano, las mismas flores que ha recibido Claudia misteriosamente. La búsqueda de la madre de Kirby la lleva a un cementerio y a la tumba de ella. En Hong Kong, Alexis revive su antiguo idilio con Ahmed para hacer negocios con él. Claudia recibe otra misteriosa llamada, esta vez de Dex.
Blake and Ahmed close their international China Seas oil deal: "Sometimes people fall from heights. But, I'm not afraid from falling because this deal is a natural. It's a once in a lifetime thing and nothing and no one is going to screw it up for me." Alexis learns of the coup and makes plans for a counterattack. Blake confronts reporter Grayson regarding his deceptive behavior with Tracy, and then quits his political post. When Tracy makes sexual advances toward Blake, she is fired. Steven is suspicious to see Dex in Alexis' office bearing violets - the same flowers being sent mysteriously to Claudia. Kirby's search for her mother leads her to the cemetery and her mother's grave. In Hong Kong to do business with Ahmed, Alexis rekindles their former romance. Claudia receives yet another mysterious call, this time from Dex.

Dex sigue a Alexis hasta Hong Kong y se enfurece al encontrarla con Rashid, con quien acaba de cerrar un negocio para arruinar a Blake: "No sabía que me había enamorado de una zorra con la moral de una perra que está siempre en celo." Alexis le responde airada: "Eres un vaquero de segunda categoría. ¿Creías que eras mi dueño? Pues nadie es el dueño de Alexis..." Kirby explora los motivos que pudo tener su padre para suicidarse y, tras leer su nota, se compra una pistola. Fallon sufre un ataque, mientras que Dex y Tracy se van a la cama. Cuando llama de nuevo el misterioso individuo, Krystle coge el teléfono y se da cuenta de que es una cinta con la voz de Matthew. La madre de este, que lleva mucho tiempo resentida con Claudia, vendió la cinta a un comprador anónimo. Blake hace una visita a Morgan Hess y repara en la cinta que hay junto al teléfono. Hess explica que trataba de culpar a Alexis, pero Blake no cree su historia...
Dex follows Alexis to Hong Kong and is enraged to find her with Rashid, with whom she has just concluded a business deal to ruin Blake: "I didn't know that what I've fallen for was a slut. A slut with the morals of a dog in perpetual heat." An angry Alexis eventually tells him: "You overrated cowboy! You thought you owned me? Well, nobody owns Alexis!" Kirby explores the reasons behind her father's death. After reading his suicide note, she purchases a handgun. Fallon is overcome by a seizure. Dex and Tracy make love. When the mysterious caller phones again, Krystle takes the call and realizes it is a tape recording of Matthew's voice. Matthew's mother, who had long resented Claudia, sold the tape to an unnamed buyer. Blake pays a visit to Morgan Hess and spots the tape near the phone. Hess explains he intended to frame Alexis, but Blake does not believe his story.

Blake y Alexis regresan de Hong Kong y se encuentran en el aeropuerto, donde intercambian cumplidos: "El día que empecemos a extraer petróleo, millones de petróleo, será el día que tu empresa haga un giro de 180 grados y la D-C se convierta en número 1.” “Ese será el día en que regalarán abrigos de piel en el infierno...” - responde Alexis. Luego revisa todos los noticieros de TV y Mark cree que espera oir últimas noticias sorprendentes: algo que ya sabe ella. Blake se entera de que Kirby ha averiguado la verdad sobre su padre y desea demostrarle que sólo le mintió para cumplir el deseo de Joseph. Tracy y Krystle intercambian fuertes palabras:

Blake and Alexis return from Hong Kong and meet at the airport, where they exchange pleasantries: "The day that we start pumping what I’m sure will be millions of barrels of oil, is the day that your company does an about-face, and Denver-Carrington moves into the lead. We’re going to be No 1.” “That’s the day that they’ll give away fur coats in hell” - Alexis replies. Later, she monitors all of the television news programs, Mark suggests she's waiting to see some late-breaking news: news she already knows. Blake learns Kirby has unearthed the truth about her father and is anxious to demonstrate he only lied to fulfill Joseph's wishes. Tracy and Krystle exchange angry words:
"Your little game is over, Tracy, and you've lost." "Wrong, you are wrong, Krystle. You see, the way I play, the game isn't over until the team walks off the field. So, just between us, let's consider this a time out." As little Blake's birthday party gets underway, Krystle tells a stunned Alexis that she is expecting a baby. A surprised Alexis tries to insult Krystle by stating that Krystle's not the first woman to give birth, as Alexis has given birth four times. Krystle catches the slip and asks doesn't she mean three? To which Alexis explains she had a miscarriage after Steven was born. Fallon and Jeff announce their plans to remarry. The Carringtons are stunned to hear that Rashid Ahmed has created an international incident by announcing that Blake is planning a military attack on another world power involved in the China Seas oil deal.

Blake se enfrenta a Alexis tras enterarse del plan que ha tramado con Rashid mientras Mark escucha con interés desde el balcón: "Casi me caigo balcón abajo de la risa..." - le dice después. "Lástima que no te caíste" - Alexis sentencia proféticamente, dispuesta a comprar su silencio. Blake viaja a Hong Kong y descubre que Ahmed ha dejado el país, y su dinero lo tiene ahora el gobierno. Blake travels to Hong Kong and learns Ahmed has left the country, leaving Denver-Carrington's money with the government. In Joseph's old bungalow, Kirby confronts Alexis, but her plan to kill her is foiled. After Mark successfully blackmails Alexis, McVane arrives and reminds him they're in this business together. Nervous that McVane will learn of his $ 100,000 hit on Alexis, Mark quickly opens an account at a local bank, as McVane looks on. Then he says goodbye to Krystle: "Why are you leaving, Mark?" - she asks. "Does it have anything to do with Alexis?" "Oh no, she's a nuisance. Hey! I'm on top of the world, kid. I do know someone who'd like to push me off. But, don't worry, I don't push so easily..."

Blake vende sus propiedades e hipoteca la mansión para reunir el dinero que necesita. Durante una acalorada discusión con Alexis, Tracy revela a Alexis que mantiene una aventura con Dex: "Mira, no me subí a este barco de víboras para convertirme en la puta de la compañía. To raise the needed money, Blake sells his assets and mortgages the mansion. In a heated confrontation with Alexis, Tracy tells Alexis of her ongoing affair with Dex: "Look, I didn't sign on this ship of vipers to become the company whore. I already told that. About Dawson, if you want something from him, why don't you sleep with him? I hear that's one of your specialties. And don't bother saying, "Youre fired, Miss Kendall", because Miss Kendall just quit." Alexis is again questioned by the police,who want the details of her affair with Mark. Fallon suffers another painful headache. Sammy Jo informs Steven she intends to stay in Denver and take custody of Danny.
An unknown, beautiful woman, Dominique Devereaux, sweeps into La Mirage demanding the finest accommodations. When she attempts to question Fallon about Alexis, Fallon grows suspicious. Alexis tiene pesadillas frecuentes relacionadas con la muerte de Mark. Kirby intenta matar a Alexis de nuevo: "Dios mío - dice ella. "Oh, sí, rézale deprisa, zorra..." Entonces Alexis contraataca: "Si lo soy, aprende de mí. Podría hacerte falta en la vida." Cuando es incapaz de apretar el gatillo, Alexis le propone guardar silencio a cambio de que abandone a Adam. Por fin se revela la verdad tras el intento de volver loca a Claudia. Sammy Jo sedujo a Hess para que lo llevara a cabo, y ahora vuelve a recurrir a él para recuperar a su hijo. Pero Steven no le permitirá salirse con la suya:

She drives off as the ceremony is about to take place...In the middle of the rain, she has an accident when a truck appears out of the blue...
