It's time for your Check Up!
Yes, your brain is an organ like any other in your body and also needs to get regular tune ups. That may be in the form of visiting your psychologist/therapist to check in about how things are going and to share your life goals in a structured setting. Sometimes just checking in with someone can help us reprioritize our life goals and move us closer to our valued direction.
Prevent & Maintain
Remember, good mental health also comes from regular maintenance. Here are some tips for what you can do on a daily basis to keep your brain healthy and happy:
1. Be mindful. Practicing one mindfully in the moment.
2. Do things one at a time. Multitasking too much can lead to increased stress and blood pressure
3. Exercise regularly. 30 minutes a day is what is now recommended.
4. Eat Healthy. Plan for your meals or visit with a nutritionist!
5. Keep breathing.
6. Take time for yourself - do something fun!
7. Do something new. Play a game, start a new hobby, try a sport. I like www.lumosity.com for regular practice.
8. Spend time with others -- family, friends, partner, spouse, children. Remember what's important to your life.
Community Mental Health
Put down the electronics and pay attention to those around you. Good mental health isn't just about the individual. It's about the health of the community. Notice people around you, ask how they're doing. Volunteer. Even something as simple as looking someone in the eye and saying "hello" can foster good community mental health.
