Third Quarter Update: July 1 - September 30, 2014
SCC is dedicated to giving back to the community. We are honored to be hosting the work of Alexa Orozco on our walls this quarter and to be collecting non-perishable donations for the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona.
Alejandra “Alexa” Orozco was born in Morelia, Michoacán Mexico in 1983. She lived in the Central Coast of California for 20years before movingto Tucson, Arizona to attend the Southwest University of Visual Arts originally to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design. After taking a course in rendering techniques Alexa decided to add a minor in painting to learn the media. What began as a search for a weekend hobby quickly developed into an obsession and a passion for painting which caused her to switch her minor for a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Arts with an emphasis in painting. Alexa’s work was frequently displayed in the Student Gallery and in several group shows in the LaunchBox Gallery and the Florence Quater Gallery at the Southwest University of Visual Arts TucsonCampus. She has since participated in several group shows in Tucson and once in San Diego for RAW: Natural Born Artist’s 2012 and 2013 artist showcases and was also selected as one of the finalists for Tucson Visual Artist of the Year.
Alexa has been featured in several juried shows in Phoenix for the Herberger Theatre Center’s 2012, 2013 and 2014 Art Exhibitions. Other Phoenix shows include STICKY SITUATIONS in which Alexa’s series of paintings, Contains No Nutritional Value, was displayed at the Phoenix Public Library’s @Central Gallery. In 2011 Alexa received a Student Gold ADDY and the Student Best of Show from the American Advertising Federation in Tucson, a District 12 Student Gold ADDY, and a Student Silver ADDY at the National level. She was also selected to be one of the artists featured in Studio Visit Magazine’s spring 2013 issue. For more artwork by Alexa, please visit: http://artbyalexa.blogspot.com/
The Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona is dedicated to anticipating and meeting the food needs of the hungry in our community through education, advocacy, and the acquisition, storage, and distribution of food. The food bank often runs low in the hot months of summer. Please bring in non-perishable food items to help replenish the cupboards of those in need. There is a box in the front lobby of SCC.
