This Sunday we will go to Marsden for a ca. 8-mile circular walk via the Standedge tunnel end, up the Standedge trail, the Pennine Way and Willykay Clough. The route involves a moderate climb of ~290m with one or two steeper sections and may be quite muddy in places. If the weather is rough-ish, we can also do a shorter walk by looping around the Redbrook reservoir and returning to Marsden sooner. There are a couple of pub options; the Riverhead Brewery Tap looks inviting.
We have a lovely 8.5-mile route from Todmorden to Littleborough nr Rochdale. We will head up to meet the Pennine Way on Langfield Common south of Todmorden, then follow the Pennine Way down as far as the ‘Aiggin Stone’ (just east of ‘Dick Slack’) where we will turn west onto the Rochdale Way to take us down into Littleborough for about 2pm. If preferred we can take a slightly longer route down to check out Hollingworth Lake. There are several of options for a pub lunch in Littleborough – the Waterside near the station looks good - and approximately half-hourly trains back to Manchester when we have had our fill!!
We will return to one of our favourite locations Glossop, for a ca. 9 mile circular route described here: from Old Glossop via Shittern Clough and open moorland (don’t worry, we have GPS!) to the plane crash site near Hern Stones (beware the ghosts of US servicemen) and back to Glossop via Doctor’s Gate. Should it be too boggy out there, we’ll take a shortcut to the Pennine Way and Longdendale trail for a northerly route back to Glossop. Either way, we’ll aim for our old favourite, The Globe, for a late lunch. Traditional beers brewed on location, award winning vegan food, and all that at unbeatable prices
During the COVID-19 confinement, and following government's advice, all our walks were suspended. Please keep safe and we hope to see you all soon!
