On our first walk of the year we will be doing a little circuit around Hadfield and into Padfield for lunch at The Peels Arms - beginning at Broadbottom station, going north on the Goyt Valley way, up to Hollingworth nature reserve and the reservoirs, then back down into Tintwistle and across to Longdendale, which brings us to the pub. There are a couple of places where we can either lengthen or shorten the walk, depending on weather and our mood. Our thank you to James for (yet again) proposing a route!
It is a latish start, we should meet by 10:00 at the Costa Coffee near platform 12 to catch the 10:18 train. We will walk for 3-4 hours and then have lunch.
The next walk will start at Whaley Bridge station, walk via Lyme Park, and end up in Disley for a late lunch.
We will meet at 9:30am at the Costa Coffee near platform 12 to catch the 9:52 train, there is only one an hour. The walk will be around 4 hours or so.
The next walk is Sunday 26th April, walking in the area of Darwen, Lancashire. We will walk a section of the Claderdale Way and round Crow Hill from Mytholmroyd and end up in Hebden Bridge for a late lunch. The route will be ca 10 miles and will include lowland wooded areas around the nearby reservoirs and also time in the hills above Derwen to visit Jubilee Tower (see below).
We will meet at 9.40am by the ticket office at Victoria Station to catch the 10:00 train, there is only one every hour. The walk will be around 5-6 hours or so including stops.
There will be a pub stop about 2/3 of the way round, but we should bring a packed lunch so we can enjoy the scenery to the full.
The train journey time is 41 mins, so we should be in Victoria by 6pm or 7pm - according to which train we use to travel back.
It's coming up to that time of the month once again...The next walk is Sunday 31st May, walking in the area of Edale in the Peak District.
We are returning to explore the lovely Hope Valley area as this is the area we used for our first walk two years ago. Yes - happy 2nd birthday us!
The (different) route will be ca 10 miles and will include some time on Kinder Scout as well as in the Hope Valley itself.
We will be going by train from Piccadilly Station - meeting at 9.20am at the Costa Coffee nr platform 12, in order to catch the 9.45 train. As usual there is only one every hour. The walk will be around 5-6 hours including stops.
As with the last walk, please bring a packed lunch so we can enjoy the scenery to the full.
We will have time for a pub stop in Edale before catching the train back to Manchester. I suggest we plan to return on the 17.47 getting back to Manchester for 18.30, but we should be in Edale for the 16.48 if anyone needs to get away earlier.
The next walk will be along the Easedale Ridge from Grasmere Village in the Lake District.
The medium-difficulty route will be ca 7 miles and features primarily country lanes but with some steeper sections and plenty of excellent views. As with the last walk, please bring a packed lunch so we can enjoy the scenery to the full.
The walk will be 4-5 hours including stops and we plan to be back in Manchester by 7pm. There should be time for a pub stop in Grasmere before we head back to Manchester.
Travel will be by car with the plan being to set off from Manchester at 8am and get breakfast on the way. Once we have exact numbers we can decide whether to meet centrally in Manchester or whether it would be easier for the drivers to make separate arrangements with their passengers - we would be together for breakfast either way.
the next walk this Sunday (26th July) will be from Chapel-en-Le-Frith to Buxton. The route will be approximately 9 miles. We will be eating a picnic lunch and then ending our walk in Buxton, where coffee, yummy desserts, and alcohol await us at Project X.
Please bring your lunch plus extra snacks for the walk, along with plenty of water.
We will meet at 9.30am by the ticket office at Piccadilly Station to catch the 9:51 train, there is only one every hour. The walk will be around 5-6 hours or so including stops.
The train journey back is 60 mins, so we should be in Victoria at either 5:27 or 6:27pm - according to which train we use to travel back. A NOTE ON TRAIN FARES:
1. Please buy a return ticket to BUXTON, not Chapel (as we will board in Buxton to return)
2. There is a special fare if two people purchase their tickets together, so when you arrive at the station, find someone else in the group before you purchase your ticket!
There was no walk in August 2009.
On our next walk we will be going to the Yorkshire Dales.
Travel will be by car with the plan being to set off from Manchester at 8.30am and get breakfast on the way. Once we have exact numbers we can decide whether to meet centrally in Manchester or whether it would be easier for the drivers to make separate arrangements with their passengers - we would be together for breakfast either way.
If you are willing to come and drive please let us know asap.
As it's nearly Halloween, we are heading into Pendle Witch territory
We have a 10 mile circular walk (approx) starting in Clitheroe in the Ribble Valley, which includes ascending Pendle Hill. The route is not expected to be rough but could be muddy in places.
We will be getting to Clitheroe by train – meet at Manchester VICTORIA at 9.40 to catch the 10am train to Clitheroe.
Meet at the coffee stand opposite the ticket office.
We should be returning to Manchester for 17.52 on the 16.19 from Clitheroe.
The timing above will allow time for a picnic lunch, and hopefully a pub or cafe stop before catching the train.
We have a 10 mile circular walk (approx) starting in Chinley, on the Manchester-Sheffield line. The route is not expected to be rough but could be muddy in places. We will be getting to Chinley by train; meet at Manchester Piccadilly at 9.00 to catch the 9:22am train to Chinley.
Meet opposite the Costa Coffee / public toilets at the end of the station (near track 12). We should be returning to Manchester for 16:31 on the 15:55 train from Chinley.
