For February we have organised a city walk in Liverpool.
Our city walk takes us past some stunning architecture and historical sites in Liverpool. There is also the option of taking the ferry 'cross the Mersey (and back again) halfway through the walk. We will stop for lunch at the 'legendary' Café Tabac (legendary according to the Itchy guide).
As for travelling there, we will leave from Manchester Victoria. We will take the 9.19am train (early for a Sunday indeed but our
lunch will be perfectly timed seeing as the place we thought we'd have lunch at is towards the tail-end of the walk).
The next walk will be next Sunday 30th March in the area around Glossop.
We will meet at 9:40am at PICADILLY train station behind the departure board and catch the 09:53 train. As sometimes trains leave from distant platforms we may have left 10 minutes before the departure time. It is only a 30 minute journey. The return trains are
every half an hour, and we will be back before 6:00pm
In April we'll be travelling to the White Peak area of Derbyshire. This is the area around Deepdale and Chee Gorge - not far from Buxton.
For this walk we will need to get there by car so we will be using car-sharing - and possibly also car hire as necessary. Please let us know in advance if you plan to come and whether you are willing to drive or to contribute to car-hire.
The next walk will be in the Marsden and Standedge area, in the northern fringes of the Peak District.
We are back on the train for this one, and we will meet at 10:00 at Piccadilly near or in the Costa Coffee shop near Platform 12 and the toilets. The train is 10:19, so we will head for the platform about 10:10.
It is an 8 mile walk and lunch will be at the end in Marsden at around 15:00 - 15:30. There aren't many trains so we are likely to return on the 17:22, arriving back in Piccadilly just before 18:00.
Our next walk will be in the Lake District. We will do the Old Man of Coniston from Coniston Village. We are looking at a moderate route, between 7-8 miles.
We would like to get an idea of numbers as we will need to be hiring a car or two. If you are able to come please let us know by Friday 20 of June.
We will meet at 8am and will stop at a Service Station for breakfast. Please take a packed lunch for picnic on the walk. We will stop at the end of the walk for a drink as well.
We estimate that it will all cost £10/£15 per person for petrol and car hire.
Our next walk will be in North Wales. We are looking at a moderate route, between 7-8 miles. If you know the area and have any suggestions do let us know.
We would like to get an idea of numbers as we will need to be hiring a car or two. If you are able to come please let us know by Monday 25 of August. We will meet at 8am and will stop at a Service Station for breakfast. Please take a packed lunch for picnic on the walk. We will stop at the end of the walk for a drink as well. We estimate that it will all cost £10/£15 per person for petrol and car hire.
Having not made it out to the Ribble Valley back in July, it only seemed right to have another go! As a reminder: The 9-10 mile lowland route will take us along the River Ribble out of Clitheroe then back via farmland underneath Pendle Hill. There will be a stop for a pub lunch about half way round. The terrain is not expected to be rough but may well be muddy in places.
We will be getting to Clitheroe by train – meet at Manchester VICTORIA at 9.40 to catch the 10am train to Clitheroe. We should be returning to Manchester for 18.35 on the 17.24 from Clitheroe.
As we are only going by train you can just roll up on the day. However iIf you are planning to come it is helpful to have a mobile number to text you on if there are any last-minute changes.
Welcome all, and in particular our new members Simon and, er, Simon!
We are heading back to Wales for the last proper walk of 2008. The route and eateries have been kindly picked out by James.
Come climb to the top of Moel Famau and see the pyramid that the crazy Victorians built there!
We will be driving this time, but will meet at Piccadilly Station, in the usual place by Costa Coffee near Platform 12, at 8:00am Sunday 26th October. DON'T eat breakfast! We will be stopping in Mole on the way. You can check out the breakfast option at: http://www.brewcoffeeshop.co.uk/menu.html
The route is 8-12 miles (depending on the weather and how we feel, there are options to make it shorter or longer) and we will be eating at the end of the walk, probably the Druid Inn (Llanferres, outside of Mold) so please bring enough food to last the day.
The last walk of the year will be November 30th, and we will be returning to Alderley Edge. It is a nice late start, we should meet by 10:15 at the Costa Coffee near platform 12. We will walk for 3-4 hours and then have lunch.
