The Morgan Project

(ISBN 0 9588006 5 0)

From 1977 to 1983, the SUHR carried out a major fieldwork project in the River Murray at Morgan to initially obtain material for a display for Morgan's centenary celebration in 1978 and then to collect artefacts for a future museum.

A final project report for this project was not been published despite regular mention of an impending publication in minutes of society meetings from 1983 up to 1992.

A large amount of progress reporting, correspondence, photographs and other material was discovered in the SUHR's archive during 2005. Also, communications with Brian Marfleet, the project’s leader, resulted in additional material being made available including a draft (dated 1989) of the final project report.

In late 2005, it was decided to publish the draft final report, the progress reports and other material in 2 ‘stand-alone’ volumes with the option for a third volume at a future time. The purpose of this decision was to make information about one of the SUHR's major projects available to interested individuals & organisations thereby providing final closure for the Morgan Project.

Artefacts recovered by the SUHR are now on display at the Morgan Museum, Railway Terrace MORGAN SA 5320.
