I am an Economic Historian, mainly interested in the history of taxation, inequality, and public policies. My PhD analysed the distributive consequences of the Spanish transition to democracy, particularly the reforms and operation of the tax system.

My current research deals with the relation between the tax structure and the rise of welfare states in the period 1910 to 1970 ("Taxing for the welfare state: public finances and progressivity in the rise of social spending (1910-1970)"). By comparing five countries representing different models of welfare states (France, Spain, Sweden, the United States and the United Kingdom), the project will establish the roles of progressive or regressive taxation in the growth of redistribution. This work has been funded by Jan Wallanders och Tom Hedelius stiftelse and by the Swedish Research Council. I will keep developing these lines of research with the support of a Ramón y Cajal grant in the following years.

Additionally, I am currently collaborating with the Inter-American Development Bank and the Brazilian tax administration in a project about income tax evasion and inequality. We are hopeful that this project could have implications for other countries of the region.

I am also linked to the SWINNO project, where I analyse innovation policies and their impact in Sweden and Finland since 1970.
