Whether you need pitch storyboards to help sell your vision or just working boards to help the communication process and planning, I have years of experience with this phase of pre-production.Â
The art of storyboards is making sure the sequence of shots will tell the story the client wants. From the boards, it's possible to extract valuable information, lists of sets and props , location actors and effects and from the lists the budgeting.
Pitch Boards are are high quality illustrations to help sell the idea.
Working/Shooting boards are sketcher and have just enough information to communicate where the camera should be. Whats in the shot and how the individual shot relates in the sequence of shots.Â
Sharing Bears, Quick thumb nail boards. the boards were just for me to plan out the project, "Sharing Bears" was included in the Siggraph 2006, animation theater , as well as other festivals all over the world.Â
The boards simply, clearly , quickly ,cheaply, represent the idea of the final shot. Here showing the spreading of a bone diseases.
Tronder Red. the edit points shifted a little but it was a very efficient production with only a few storyboards on the cutting room floor. By always having the edit available ask for feed back along the way. and get feed back from others, some shots got longer so they would read better and I added the little post credits shot.Â
Make the story work in the boards. it's a iterative process of refining the story.Â
I board out the story and then start roughing in motion and sound. This means that we can have meaningful conversations on what is and is n0t working in the story. As the animation is created each shot can be judged in the context of the whole story and adjusted in needed.
Where is the viewers attention? Do I move the viewers attention from the far left of the screen to the far right, do I have them move there eyes across the screen and then pick it up there in the next shot? Â
Hasp Eagle board successfully sold the project. Watercolor

For games and multimidea branching storyboards are very helpful for communicating the whole idea
"Amy Prentice" pitch boards from 1997, the client still has these boards on the website over 20 years later!Â
Acushnet Golf Shoe, I drew 3 sets of board for this client throwing away boards is the cheapest way to make changes and get the best solution for the project
Storyboard to render
Quick Shooting boards for the Emmy award winning Living weapon documentary. The producer and I had a great time with this little scene where a japanese scientist gets his funding from the government official by threatening him with a tube of deadly pathogen.
Another little sequence for the Living Weapon documentary. showing the preparing of the pathogens.
Quick color shooting boards about a painful skin condition. For a promotional film for a medicine. The videographer (Anders Aas) loved working from the boards it made his life easier he knew exactly what to shoot.Â
Kodak Snap Shot Photo Scanner 2, this was a fun  project for Eastman Kodak , the message was bridging the gap between the gap between the camera and the computer. No dialog could be used because the product was to be rolled out in 8 languages. When I joined the project they had large grid with 3 images from the internet pasted in. I built out theses story boards which impressed management so much the project budget was expanded by 100,000 dollars.  Unfortunately the product was canceled before  completion the promotional animation.
Heart Pad boards these helped us discuss the vision for the product and the user interaction ideas and possibility.Â
Catapult Kittens VR, I mocked up this idea and talked it over with a few friends and decided it was not worth making, this is great! it is better to come to that conclusion after a day of work then after several months.Â
Wallece boards. I was asked to story board the part of the story where Wallace and his crew are watching their ship burn down in the pacific. the director had an antique boat form a museum for one morning and need shots that could be shot from a dock or a boat. plus I need to show the burning ship as little as possible to keep the FX budget down. The job was just for black and white shooting boards but sometime colour is needed to communicate the story.Â
The Castle East of the Sun West of the Moon.
Enchanted Falls, this is the first version of the first act , I cut it to start the film with more of and action start. But it did attract a writer friend to the project and his advice has informed the later versions of the story.Â
