This course is a broad overview of the geography of tea (Camellia sinensis). In this class, students will gain an understanding of the human and physical geography associated with this fascinating plant. Participants will analyze flavor and aromatic qualities of tea through in-class tastings, discuss key events in the history and production of tea, and understand the complex geographic story behind the world’s most popular drink. By the semester’s end, you will have gained a broad appreciation for tea, as well as an understanding of terroir, tea production, and the world’s tea producing regions.
