NAKED CAME THE FARMER

a round-robin mystery

A human head crashes through a window. A naked woman zooms by on a motorcycle. A sleazy lawmaker is murdered. Opponents of a megahog-farm put up a stink. An over-the-hill biker gang enters the fray. The chase is on!

It's all in good fun — and for a good cause. Naked Came The Farmer is a serialized round robin murder mystery written in the tradition of Naked Came The Stranger, and the more recent, Naked Came The Manatee. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Peoria Public Library. More than that, Naked Came The Farmer is the product of the somewhat looney minds of thirteen of Illinois' best writers. Let's hurry up and meet them before one of them grabs a Harley and speeds away.

    • Philip Jose Farmer, one of America's greatest and best known science fiction writers.

    • Dorothy Cannell, writer of mystery stories with a wry British proclivity.

    • Julie Kistler, loved for her romantic comedies and fast-paced, light-hearted romps.

    • David Everson, mystery scrivener who delights us with gumshoes, newspaper reporters, and hardball Illinois politics.

    • Steven Burgauer, science-fiction writer whose five-part adventure series has its roots right here in Peoria.

    • Jerry Klein, who specializes in the history of Peoria, its institutions and businesses.

    • Terry Bibo, newspaper columnist and investigative snoop.

    • Garry Moore, poet, musician, songwriter, story teller, and TV personality.

    • Joel Steinfeldt, critic, feature writer, and now the editor of the Pekin Daily Times.

    • Nancy Atherton, who has a knack for writing mysteries without mayhem.

    • Tracy Knight, clinical psychologist whose short fiction has appeared in numerous anthologies.

  • Bill Knight, award-winning journalist, teacher, and critic who, incidentally, started this whole thing.
