2013 Ecuador Mission Report #2: Thur, July 4, 2013, 8:40 A.M. from Salinas, Ecuador, Hotel GreenField
Dear Family and Friends:
We are here in Ecuador and have had breakfast and will soon be at our first orientation meeting, but I’ll try to get this off before then. The computer is acting up so this will be different from the ones that follow, I hope.
We left Goodlettsville on Wednesday, July 3, at 1 P.M. and had a nice flight in spite of it being on the “mosquito” connecter plane to Miami. Our bags were checked through to Guayaquil so we didn’t have to bother with getting them. There was a 2½ hour wait before the flight to Guayaquil but we were by the huge glass windows and could see the planes coming and going. We dozed a bit and read some and listened some to the IPod music.
Our plane from Miami was luxurious in comparison, with more seat room than usual. The meal was pasta and salad with a granola bar and we had juice too, but have been short of drinking water.
The group coming from different directions came together at the airport and we were put on a special bus for the two-hour drive to the hotel where we are all staying. We left the airport at 12:30 and got here and to bed by 3 A.M. There were at least 36 on our bus and there may have been an earlier bus with more. We’ll get more facts at the meeting.
The hotel (GreenField’s) is in Salinas and the phone number is (593) 04-2778424 in case you need to reach us in an emergency. The twins are staying in room 110 and Mary Alice and I are in 111. The beds arrangement dictated that.
It is very clean and they say there is warm water. We also have western toilets. We will have to buy our drinking water and it is available not too far from here. The breakfast today was fruit, thin orange juice and bread rolls. They also offered eggs but we chose not to eat them. We have some supplement food in our room and filled in with that. We’ll see what the other meals are like.
We slept from 3 a.m. until 6 and then got ready for breakfast. Will shower later as time permits. So, we are here and grateful to the Lord for a good safe trip thus far. It will be interesting to meet all the team. Ashley Hall Hold whom we knew in Gentry is on the team. More later as we learn more. With love,
Glenn and Mary Alice (grandma and grampa) and the twins.
