Indy 500 Museum Display Engine: Drake Offenhauser - 168 CID Supercharged

This model 1/25 scale is designed to replicate display engines as seen in the Indianapolis 500 museum. The Drake Supercharged Offenhauser was used in several cars in the 1966 and 1967 Indianapolis 500's. An excellent reference for information on Offenhauser engines is "Offenhauser" by Gordon E. White.

Common to display engines at the 500 Museum is the randomly incomplete nature of the displays. This means that some, but not all lines, hosing and fittings that would appear on a race prepped engine are present. It creates the opportunity for an even more unique model to decide what the "display" builder might choose to include or not include depending on the availability of vintage parts. At the same time, the display still has to capture the essence of a particular engine's uniqueness and componentry.

The engine is almost all scratch built from Evergreen plastic and aluminum as well as resin cast parts.

stopped counting of the holes drilled at 154! Not sure how many more than that there are!! Except for a few that were transferred in the resin castings, the large majority of the bolt heads were actually fabricated
