Hey, I'm Mr. Wedge and I teach high school science at Spirit Lake. This will be my 25th year teaching, but my first year at Spirit Lake.
I am originally from South Dakota and graduated from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD with a BSEd in biology and chemistry education with a middle school endorsement in math, science and language arts in 2001. I've been fortunate to have a wide variety of experiences in my teaching career. During my career, I've taught grades 7-12, everything from math to language arts to science. My favorite part about teaching is making connections and building relationships with parents and kids.
In addition, I completed my Master's Degree in Secondary Education and Learning in May 2009. I have also adjuncted at Northwest Community College, teaching microbiology, human anatomy and introductory physical science.
My family keeps me busy and grounded. My wife, Kate, teaches MS science at Spirit Lake and my daughters, Allison (age 16) and Lexi (age 13) are active in volleyball, track and cross-country.
In 2015, I was honored with the Award for Inspired STEM Teaching by Kemin Industries and the Governor's STEM Advisory Council. In 2018, I was deeply humbled and honored to receive the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. (Pictured with Governor Reynolds, Lt. Governor Gregg and Secretary of Education Wise).
In September 2023, I received the McTeacher of the Month from McDonald's. I was nominated by a student in my science 9 class.
