Lesson 1: Human Body Ratios
Lesson 1: Human Body Ratios
Understand: The human body has several key ratios that define its proportions.
Know: (a.) Explain the importance of human body ratios and use them to make a prediction about the measurement of an unknown part. Example: if the femur is 20 cm long, what would the person’s height be?
Lesson 2: Organ Systems
Understand: The organ systems of the human body are interconnected to maintain overall health and function. These systems don't operate in isolation; they rely on each other to perform complex tasks and maintain homeostasis.
Know: (b.) Describe how organ systems work together to carry out the six necessary life functions. You will need to write an essay!
Lesson 3: Hierarchy of Life
Understand: Life is organized in a hierarchical manner, with each level building upon the previous one and as you move up the hierarchy, new properties emerge that are not present at lower levels.
Know: (c.) Summarize how damage at any organization level affects the organism.
Practice: MAP 3 - Hierarchy, Organs and Organ Systems
Practice: MAP 4 - Organ Attack
Lesson 4: Cell Activity
Understand: Cells communicate to coordinate activities, maintain homeostasis, and respond to their environment. Cell division allows for growth, repair, and reproduction. Through cell signaling, cells can send and receive messages that regulate these processes.
Know: (d.) Explain and model why cell communication is important in blood glucose regulation, nerve cell functioning and control of the cell cycle and how cell communication failure results in disease or disorders.
(e.) Distinguish between cancerous and non-cancerous cells.
Practice: MAP 5 - Structure and Function
Practice: MAP 6 - Unit 1 Jeopardy Extra credit with parents!
