We were thinking of visiting the Amazon fulfillment center at San Marcos as a team during the break. We can also get to see a virtual tour. Here are the details
Virtual tour of an Amazon fulfillment center (Oct. 17, 7 p.m. ET)
Don't miss this behind-the-scenes look at innovation and robotics in action, including awesome GIVEAWAYS via Twitch chat! Get a sneak peek before you tune in: "5 Things You Didn’t Know about an Amazon Warehouse". Let us know you’re joining (and get a reminder) by RSVPing to our Twitch or Facebook event.

We are building a new city & for that we need architects, engineers, builders, developers and & many more skilled workers to build our city. We understood who is an Architect 2 sessions ago. Let’s learn who & how does an Engineer work.
Engineering
Who is an Engineer?
How do we get around place to place without having to walk everywhere? How do we communicate with people who live far away? These were problems that people tried to find solutions.
The short answer is: An ENGINEER is Someone who tries to address How and Why things work and tries to implement those solutions. Now... you and I also want to know how and why things work, but does that make us an Engineer?
Maybe. Beside being naturally curious, an Engineer is a person who designs and builds things like machines or systems or structures or solutions that help solve many problems. So, we are all Engineers in our own way!
Design: A plan produced to show the workings of an object before it is built or made.
Do you know there’s more than just one type of Engineer too...Civil Engineer, Computer Engineer, Automobile Engineer...
But no matter what kind of engineer someone is, they need to ask themselves these important questions when they’re working:
Let’s take a look at some examples:
Investigation
A really famous example of engineering is the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California.
Civil engineer is someone who constructs buildings, roads & ...bridges. For the person who designed the Golden Gate Bridge, What, Who & Why were the problems that they needed to solve? I think the idea of making it easy for the people traveling in and out of the city surrounded mostly by water, these kind of bridges are highly important.
Electrical engineers-they study electricity and flow of electric charges through various systems. They design electrical systems like circuits and computer chips. (It would be nice if one of the parents could bring in to show the team how the computer chips & circuits look like)
Think of an electrical object that you use pretty regularly. How about your microwave? What problem was the microwave a solution to?.. Cold food, right?
Henry Ford was a mechanical engineer, someone working in a manufacturing industry, making mechanical things like tools, engines and machines. Machines like Cars.
Ford didn’t invent the automobile, but his Ford motor company made a lot of them. His model T car was famous for being affordable for plenty of Americans. He engineered a cheaper model car & then cars now is everywhere.
A famous engineer around today is Marissa Mayer. She is a software engineer, works on computers that use software to write programs to make them faster and able to do more things.
Conclusion:
No matter what kind of Engineer someone is, their job at its most basic level is problem-solving. Each engineer just specializes in solving certain kinds of problems. While it might seem like there are too many types of engineers to keep track of, just wait 10 or 15 years, because we will have a ton of different types to add to the list by then. Think about it, Over a 100 years ago we didn’t have jobs in fields like aerospace engineering where people design and construct planes and spacecraft. We didn’t have planes or spaceships like we do have it today . Who knows what machines or tools or everyday objects we will have in the year 2030??? Will there be an under water city? I hope so!
But whatever these things are, we will need engineers to make them. So what do you say...Who wants to be an engineer?
My mom keeps saying this often to me that whatever we do, we need to give our best. Think with an open mind & bring new ideas which can be helpful in building our new city. Will you be that engineer who can make a difference to this world?
