Start bee (and fly) watching

How you can help Kwiaht learn more about island pollinators!

Send us specimens and photographs for identification and possible addition to this website. Specimens also enable us to monitor whether island pollinators are accumulating pesticides or other toxic outdoor-use products.

Photographs can be emailed to kwiaht@gmail.com Please include your name and postal address, because we will reward the first ten identifiable photographs with a copy of the illustrated book Bumblebees of North America (a $25 value).

Specimens can be mailed to Kwiaht at PO Box 415, Lopez Island WA 98261. Be sure to include your return address, because we will reward the first ten bee and hover-fly specimens (other than honeybees) with a copy of the illustrated book Bees in Your Backyard (a $30 value). Freeze insects overnight and mail them in a paper envelope folded inside another envelope. No swatted or squashed insects, please -- we cannot use them.

Send us a photograph or a specimen with your own best effort at identification, and if you are correct to the Family level or better for a bee, or the Tribe level or better for a fly, we'll send you a copy of Kwiaht's brand new adult coloring book A Bouquet of Pollinators from the San Juan Islands while supplies last (a $20 value). Honeybees or bumblebees are not eligible for this reward.
