So, why so many bars changing hands? Because you, dear client, have not done your homework - and you believe everything the estate agent tells you - and does NOT tell you! - There are over 600 bars / restaurants in the area near the sea. Half of them English & Irish. The bars in the port did well - ONLY because the weekly market was there. Now all the bars face car parks. Big deal. - There are a LOT of Council taxes, Terrace tax, etc. - The lads & lassies you employ want a Contract, which means paying their Social Security contributions - and you cannot afford it! -
Story - The pub tenant is packing up. He's gone bust. The estate agent, with the tenant, engineers the following scenario ; He offers drinks at "Half price!" on a certain night. The place is heaving !! - The estate agent turns up with the new tenant who is VERY impressed. Next day, of course, the pub is back to it's normal 2 an hour.
Myself? - It was just a big merry-go-round !! - I have done one bar in the port at least 4 times (Bakewell Tart) - Average 2 or 3 times each, over 22 yrs. I was not complaining! -
