Water Garden 2

This water garden is also known as the Fountain garden because of the fountains (which are still operational to date) it feature. Fountain garden is a fine example of the level of knowledge possessed by the ancient Sri Lankans in hydraulics.

There are four fountains built symmetrically on either side and are fed by the adjacent moats surrounding the 'Summer Palaces close by. Water supply to the fountains are from underground pipe system. These fountains work due to the pressure created by gravity.

On the south half of the garden there exists a shallow serpentine stream which controls the movement of water.
