The West Entrance

Walking through small bridge over the inner moat, you would face the granite staircase which will allow access through one of the inner ramparts.

The steps just like the rest of them which will take you to the top of the Sigiriya rock, are carved out of a variety of white granite rock. It is believed that when these were in their original form would have emitted a glow under the moonlight, providing natural lighting to find the way around.

The west entrance is one of the main entrances. There are remaining ruins of a gate at the west entrance. The pedestal is made of laying out polished stones and brick. the foundation proves that there has been a wooden roof to the gateway with wooden pillars supporting its weight.
