Shoreditch Board of Guardians

Peter Higginbotham has an wealth of information on his Workhouses site including information on

Boards of Guardians and I know you'll enjoy reading his page on the Shoreditch Board of Guardians,

careful though that you don't get sidetracked!

The Guardians very kindly filed and recorded every piece of correspondence received and sent,

which are bound, in volumes, and are available to view at The National Archives, Kew.

My sidetrack here was that while I was researching the founding of the Cottage Homes, Hornchurch,

I had read letters to and from the Guardians on various topics, some of which just called to me to find

out what was the story behind the correspondence, which I include here for your enjoyment.

And why was I researching the founding of the Cottage Homes, Hornchurch, you ask.

My mother was there from 1926 to 1938 and I had interviewed her in order to put her memories online,

which then led to me being contacted by many people who were there at later times.

Here are two sites, one for my mum's memories and one for people's memories kindly sent to me with permission to publish.

(sorry about the similarity in the site names - I blame it on google who will not let me change the name.)
