Daya Krishen Bhat
Vijay Laxmi Ganju
I was born in Srinagar on 18-06-1940. When I was just a small boy while playing with my elder brother, Late Shri Bal Krishen Bhat, I met an accident and lost finally the sight of my left eye before matriculation examination. Medical advice suggested me not to continue education, but my just elder brother, Shri Tribhwan Nath Bhat (my mentor and guru) encouraged me to continue studies. He always helped me. I remember him telling me once, that if I was to accept the medical advice, I was bound to become the babysitter of the brothers' children. Thanks to him, I did Masters in Statistics from Patna University in 1962. It may be stated here that both of us were studying at the same University and were living in the same hotel room on the University Campus.
During service tenure, I was sent to International Center for Population Studies Bombay (deemed university) for a year (1967-68) to study Demography. My mother passed away while I was in Bombay. After my return from Bombay, I was appointed to a gazetted post and made an Assistant Director Statistics (in charge teaching) in the Statistical Training School Jammu. On this post, I worked for some months. After this, through Public Service Commission of the state, I was selected for the post of the State Demographer. I retired from this post in the October of 1998. A computer is my passion and I pray God Almighty that he should call me back only while I would be working in front of a computer monitor. Amin!

He is the only guy in our dynasty (so far) who without any monetary help from his parents went around the world in just three (3) US Dollars. I remember when he first left from Bombay for Hong Kong he had just rupees 500 in his pocket. Out of this amount he paid the Airport tax (Rs 350/-) at the counter to the airport authorities. Then after taking a cup of coffee at the airport converted the balance amount and the conversion fetched him 3 US dollars.
Till date he has visited China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Bangladesh, Dubai, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Ceuta, Portugal, Andorra, Denmark, Italy, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Poland, Czech Republic, Lebanon, Romania, Croatia, Hungary, Turkey,Russia, Brazil, Chile, Curacao, Paraguay, Panama and USA on company's business tours.
A unique person, who is liked by one and all and even by those who willy-nilly distanced themselves from him. He is savvy by nature. He has a large friend circle. He is at present working for a multinational company in Hong Kong.
