Lived in SR since age of 12. Assistant superintendent of H-A South River. S.R. Board of Commisioner 1895. Left company in 1892 -"forced through ill health" - and opened Main St. grocery store in Tuttle Bldg, eventually the largest grocery store/meat market in SR.
Charles Herrmann-Grandson of Adolph, son of Henry, nephew of Louis Reizenstein.
Operated Herrmann Shirt Waist & Underwear Co. (60 employees) on Thomas St. before re-joining H-A in 1913, selling it to Epstein & Levy. [LEFT] Building circa 1917 (after Epstein & Levy closed).
After the closing of Herrmann, Aukam & Co., starts new embroidery business in Benzinger Bldg. and later on Gordon St., midway between Washington and Jackson Streets.
The business would later be relocated to the Tanners Corners section of town (intersection of Old Bridge Turnpike, Cranbury Rd, Hillside Rd, Main St & Milltown Rd. ).
Becomes South River Postmaster (1924).
