South Florida Bass Rattlers

Who We Are

We range in age from 20-something to 70-something. We have some very experienced terrific anglers, and we have guys (like me) who can only dream about becoming Angler of the Year. Unlike other clubs who focus on the very highest levels of skill and competition, the Rattlers are a group of fishing enthusiasts who value camaraderie and friendship as much as they do bragging rights. Yes, we have cash prizes for monthly and yearly top performers. But we also have cookouts and 2-day tournaments with food, drink, lousy jokes, and smelly cigars. In the interest of helping everyone become a better angler, we require that top performers share valuable info on where and how they caught their fish after each tournament. And we value our non-boating members as much as the boaters.

Each month we have a random draw to determine who will be fishing with who. We do not have fixed “teams” who fish together all year long. The weight of your bag is not combined with the weight of the co-angler.

The costs to be in this club are monthly dues of $25, plus an optional $5 big bass pot each month. Non-boaters are also required to contribute $40 to the boater to help offset costs ($80 for 2-day tournaments). Each month we award small cash prizes to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishers ($40, $30 & $20 respectively). The biggest bass of the day gets the $5/man pot. At the end of the year, we have a Lunker Bass pot that goes to the biggest bass of the year. The amount varies but has ranged between $800 and $1,100. And the top 6 Anglers of the Year also receive modest cash prizes.

Prior to Covid-19, we met monthly at the restaurant at Bass Pro Shops in Dania, and it is our hope to resume that practice in the near future. For now, we have impromptu meetings right after our weigh-ins.

This might not be the club for everyone, especially if you’re looking for serious competition from only the best of the best. But the guys who do end up joining the South Florida Bass Rattlers, are almost always Rattlers and friends for life.
