From the 26 th to the 29 th September 2012 it will take place in Vinci

(near Florence, Italy) the international conference

"Science et Représentation. Colloque International en mémoire de Pierre

Souffrin"

organized by the Max-Planck-Institut für Wissenschaftsgeschichte, the

Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, the Museo Galileo of

Florence, the Biblioteca Leonardiana of Vinci, The University of Pisa and

the Societé Internationale "Leon Battista Alberti".

The conference in memory of the French astrophysicist and historian of

science Pierre Souffrin (1935-2002) aims to relaunch and fix the topics, on

which Pierre Souffrin focused his research:

· Philosophy of the nature and mathematization of the world in the

Antiquity and in the Middle Ages

· The new image of the world and the birth of mechanics as science

· Between techniques and sciences in the Renaissance

· Edition and translation in the history of science

The conference will begin on Wednesday the 26th September at 10:30 a.m. at

the Biblioteca Leonardiana in Vinci.

*On the occasion of the conference there will be available 5 short

scholarships for PhDs interested in this topic; the scholarship consists in

the stay and dinner at a farm holidays in Vinci for the duration of the

conference. Applications will be received until all the available places

will be full and should arrive within the 15th August 2012.*
