The Project of the Year (PoY) is a task undertaken by all SELECTers in their first year of their studies.
During the second half of the first semester in the SELECT programme, from October till December, work phase I (WPI) of the projects is completed. This WPI is the ground work: literature review, information gathering, concept generation and evaluation. The final output of WPI is a grand presentation, and a written project report. Each project group also creates a poster and presents their project to external experts.
During the second semester in the SELECT programme, the students finalize the engineering aspects of the PoY, formulate a solid business plan to support it and do their best to bring the project to life by the necessary groundwork for the actual implementation. Work phase II (WPII) is longer and more demanding from many other aspects.
In their second year of studies, the SELECT students form new groups with participants in multiple study locations, and work independently on a topic of their choice under the title of Integrated Project of the Year (IPoY). This can be the followup of a previous year project or a brand new idea.
