Sorbian Corporate and Conference Names

The aim of this page is to provide information about the structure of Sorbian corporate and conference names and to discuss cataloging issues involving these names. Examples are provided.

1. Sorbian Corporate Names

Sorbian corporate names and its subdivisions are established for the main access point in the Sorbian language, either in Upper or in Lower Sorbian. If the same source or other sources (e.g., websites) provide a term in a different language or abbreviation, this is recorded as a variant form. If capitalization is used, the various access points need to reflect this, if this is the spelling most commonly found. If the corporate name is displayed in the genitive form in the Sorbian language, the access points need to be converted into the nominative form.

Example (in MARC format):

110 2  Rěčny centrum WITAJ

410 2  WITAJ—Sprachzentrum

410 2  RCW

410 2  Domowina (Society). $b Rěčny centrum WITAJ

670   Publikacije Rěčneho centruma WITAJ … [genitive form]

2. Sorbian Conference Names

Sorbian conference names are established on the same pattern. When a place is used as a qualifier, the place name of the original access point is used. If the same source or other sources (e.g., websites) provide a term in a different language or abbreviation, this is recorded as a variant form.

Example (in MARC format):

111 2  DIGISERB Digitalizaciska konferenca $n (2nd : $d 2021 ǂc Bautzen, Germany)

411 2  DIGISERB Digitalisierungskonferenz $n (2nd : $d 2021 ǂc Bautzen, Germany)
