Gillette Razor Set, circa 1908

This triple plated silver razor set is from around 1908 and is most likely one of the first types of traveling sets Gillette sold with their razors.  The set features a wooden case much like smaller ones which can be found from 1906 with script logos (shown in second picture).  The whole interior features rich purple velvet.  The only marking on the case can be found on the rim just above the button clasp: "PAT. APL'D FOR".  I wonder which patent this refers to.  The glass jars are believed to be for talc and aftershave.  The silver plated caps for the jars are stamped with what looks to read: "G. SILVER" and/or "ER. SILVER".  Jars like this are scarcely seen but can be identified as belonging with Gillette sets from a catalog printed in 1908 entitled "The Gillette Safety Razor".  The brush is stamped with the Gillette "Diamond and Arrow" logo and with "BRISTLES SET IN RUBBER".  The bristles are badger hair and are in great shape.  The lack of soap residue leads me to believe this brush has never been used... maybe I should try lathering up with it.
