Gillette double ring old type, Serial No. 3431

The year of 1904 was a pivotal one for Gillette, and a successful one.  Once the company realized it could be sustainable, Gillette started to stamp sequential serial numbers in all the razors they manufactured.  They started with No. 1 in June or July and ended the year off with No. 45424.  Furthermore, the U.S. Patent Office approved Gillette's patent for their razor on November 15th.  Before this time, Gillette had stamped "PAT. APL'D FOR" on the handles of their razors.  After the approval of their patent the razors, stating with Serial No. 25425, were stamped with "PAT. NOV. 15. '04".  The razor pictured below is one of the very few made with "PAT. APL'D FOR" and stamped with a serial number.  This is No. 3431 of 25424.
