Backpacking and Longer Excursions from Seattle

The hiking and backpacking in the Cascade Mountains is superb during summer. Sadly, bus access to the mountain is limited, but a private bus line can take you directly to Stevens Pass, starting point for some spectacular multi-day outings. It is possible to backpack right out of North Bend (on the Metro 208) if you so choose, at the cost of considerable road and flatland trail walking. If you are patient and determined, some county bus lines can get you to other parts of the Cascades.

The world-famous mountains and old growth forests on the Olympic Peninsula are also bus-accessible with some effort and multiple transfers between county bus lines.

Easier to get to is the pleasant college town of Bellingham, just a short ride away from Seattle on Amtrak.
